Frequently Asked Questions

Do you teach beginners?

Absolutely, most of my students have never played piano before their first lesson! We will have you playing in no time, don't worry!

Where are you located?

I teach the majority of my lessons at my student's houses, so you can learn to play the piano in the comfort of your own home if you wish as many of my students do. I also teach a good portion of students from my teaching room within the Exeter Little Theatre Rehearsal Rooms (47 Preston Street, Exeter, EX1 1DF). It is located just off South Street. Do you teach children?

Yes! I will be more than happy to teach your child to learn to play the piano, it is great for developing young peoples musicallity and getting them excited by music! I tutor children from the age of 5 upwards, with lessons for young people working best as half hour lessons each week. You are more than welcome to join us during the piano lesson if you wish to sit in!

Is it still fine if I do not want to take exams?

Absolutely! Music is for everyone to enjoy, you certainly don't have to take exams if you don't want to. Examinations are often a motivational factor to keep achieving higher levels but it is totally fantastic if you wish to play piano for leisure.

What songs will we learn?

It is completely up to you!  Whatever style of piano music you like, classical or modern, as well as anything in between, we will cover it!  My piano lessons are all about empowering my students to play the music they love, whether that is Coldplay or Chopin.

Do I need anything before I start my first lesson?

Not at all, I have all the equipment here that you are more than welcome to use!

Do we need a piano to learn?

If you are a beginner, a keyboard will be fine. All students who are Grade 1 level and up should be practising on a piano to develop finger technique and you would be surprised at the many places you can go to practise on a piano in Exeter. Musicrooms shop, the University of Exeter and local churches all have piano you can use for a small fee if you don't have a piano at home!

Can we arrange group lessons?

Yes, I would be happy to teach pairs of students if you are interested. More than two students within one lesson is often a challenge, individual lessons work best.

Do you offer gift vouchers?

Yes, call me for more information!
